A powerful, intelligent, gentle, curious bird that requires plenty of opportunity to chew. Standard metal cages will not do for a Hyacinth Macaw; stainless steel is recommended. Bars smaller than 3 mm are not recommended, and the cage must be inspected often for damage.

Highly intelligent, they enjoy scrabble puzzle toys, and need a wide variety of things to play with. Eager to please, the Hyacinth is a born performer, and adores learning new behaviors. May become distractive and disruptive when bored.

DIET: Consumes more fats and carbohydrates, and less protiens. Needs a daily serving of nuts, such as macadamia, brazil, and walnuts. Low protien pellets, veggies, and fresh fruit should also be made available.
